LEADERSHIP PSYCHODYNAMICS FOR

PROJECT LEADERSHIP

Advanced Program

Tap into the crucial project success element that most project managers are not equipped for

Successfully moving any project from its inception, through execution, and onto achieving the expected outcomes, is directly linked to your ability to lead the complexity and volatility of the human dynamic realm.

THE CHALLENGE

As a project manager you are technically equipped. You have been trained in the methods, models, frameworks, and tools required to effectively manage the processes of a project.
However, when you add people into the mix, you need to understand the psychodynamics in play and how to manage this critical element in the success equation.

Equip yourself

The fundamentals in Project Leadership Psychodynamics will equip you in this critical area.

Designed for rapid uptake

The program is designed for rapid uptake and immediate use by you to evolve as a project leader.

Transform how you lead

It will immediately change how you look at the project arena you are responsible for. Evolve the way you look at leading, and will totally transform how you go about leading your project.

Part 1

Clearing up the misconception around leadership

The problem with understanding leadership is that there are too many opinions of what a leader is. What is needed, is to break through the clutter, put aside the misconceptions, and lay out the fundamentals of what leading is about.

Part 1b

Project Leadership

There are 3 fundamentals at play within every end-game we are striving to achieve. However, not all of these elements are equal.

Why the need for project leadership skills?

Learn why leadership skills will change your influence on a project realm, and how this leads to enhanced project outcomes.

Part 2

Psychodynamics of leadership

There are 3 fundamentals at play within every end-game we are striving to achieve. However, not all of these elements are equal.

Find out what these 3 elements are, and which element is the most crucial for the other two to work together for project success.

Within every end-game success equation there are 3 fundamental elements. But they are not all equal.

The first is the End-Game. This is what is being strived for. For this End-Game to be achieved, it requires the Mechanics and Psychodynamics elements in the equation to be in place and to function optimally.

The Mechanics Element is something you will be more familiar with it as management (Methods, processes, and tools). But how does it interface with the Psychodynamics and End-Game elements for it to produce what is expected?
This is unfortunately the most dominant, default approach used by most.

The Psychodynamics Element is the third element, and is the most is critical as it will determine the success of the Mechanics element and End-Game. It plays the biggest and most powerful role within the whole equation. It is however the least understood, and therefore least used element in the equation.

Part 3

The leader’s arena

Every project exists within a multi-faceted arena. It is within this arena that the different players, scenarios, and circumstances come together.

It is within this arena that you apply your craft as a leader to manage the volatility and complexity.

Learn how to master the key success elements in the arena you lead and the outcomes you are responsible for.

Wherever you operate as a leader, this is your Arena. You may be surprised to discover that it is far broader than you think, with many more layers than you are aware of, and therefore more complex than what you understand.

Every facet within your arena, whether you believe it is direct or indirect, influences how you go about managing the game and producing end-game results.

Once again, the most critical, complex, and volatile factor in the arena is people – the Psychodynamics realm.

Part 4

The Leadership Blueprint

Building anything is easier when you have a set of plans or a blueprint to work from. This is especially true is the blueprint encompasses the fundamentals required for a successful outcome.

Leadership is a complex dynamic. A blueprint will reduce the complexity to where you focus on only a handful of key levers that automatically take care of the complexity.

Increase your chances of successfully leading a high-performance team and arena by getting your hands on the leadership blueprint.

Part 5

The Blueprint (Personal acuity)

Confidence and the ability to influence is the holy grail of leadership, and each of these factors is what every leader is seeking.

Find out what drives you and what the 3 core competencies and 10 qualities are that define a good leader.

Learn more about yourself as a leader and how to improve your confidence and ability to influence others.

If you cannot lead yourself, you cannot lead others.
“Acuity is defined as a sharpness or keenness of thought, vision, or hearing.”

It’s about you as a leader, your sharpness or keenness of thought. About your ability for forward thinking, and about your skills to be observant, and therefore intuitive, and adaptable.

It’s about knowing yourself, your strengths, limitations and your ability to adapt to the situations and the people you lead.

It’s about building those skills that instil personal confidence, fosters the confidence others have in you, and gives you the ability to influence your arena.

Part 6

The Blueprint (Alignment path)

The ability to influence is found within the eclectic mix of different, disparate, and sometimes conflicting expectations in play, and then aligning these along a path focused on the end-game.

Get to understand the basics of this alignment path and you will have forged the foundation on which your influencing abilities are built.

Every endeavour, everything you are involved with, and everything you take the lead in, is an evolution journey along a path from inception, to motion, and achieving the End-Game.

The entire evolution path is a continuum of interactive expectations in play, and your job is to manage these expectations.

The Alignment Path is the first of the 5 levers, or focus points that a leader uses to reduce the more than 3,000 touchpoints to 5 manageable areas. Areas, that when kept in balance and aligned will automatically take care of the 3,000 plus touchpoints.

Part 7

The Blueprint (Alignment domains)

Everything about the human dynamic revolves around expectations.
Every thought, emotion, and behaviour is driven by the expectations in play – your own, and those of everyone around you.

Understand what is behind who we are, how we think, and how we behave.
Learn how the four power domains of perceptions, emotions, purpose, and behaviours are always interacting and shaping who we are and what we do.

Tap into this power of expectations realm and you are on your way to becoming a confidence inspiring and influential leader of others.

There are four alignment domains that contribute to the alignment path remaining aligned and balanced.

Each of these is a key lever or focus area that controls the 3,000 touchpoints that originate from these four domains.

This section is a look at each of these domains and their inter-connected nature and power. Harness this power and you are way ahead of the curve.

The Power of expectations

At the core of the psychodynamics model is the powerful entity we know as expectations. But what exactly are expectations? If you do not know what they are, how they originate, what they consist of, and how they drive every aspect of the human dynamic, then you cannot manage them.

The Psyche Domain

Take a look inside the engine room that drive the human dynamic, and every aspect of your life too.

The Logic Domain

Ever want to now how the mechanics, or the management topic fits into the equation.

This is where you find out how it interfaces with the psyche domain and the other two domains, and how these domains impact on the logic domain.

The Tribe Domain

There are certain dynamics that bring a tribe, a team, a group together, keep them together, and drives how it all functions.

The tribe domain will reveal much of what you may not understand about this powerful and potentially volatile domain.

The Ethos Domain

Much of the time we do not have a leadership problem, we have an ethos problem.

This domain is a look at what can rapidly drive a dividing wedge in a team. It is a deeper understanding of topics that many managers transgress in, and become the sabotage factor in the mix.

Part 8

Applied Leadership Psychodynamics

Once you have gained your knowledge of the psychodynamics at play, you are ready to begin applying this knowledge. You will have access to your leadership playbook that is your blueprint and guide to manage the four key scenarios you will encounter.

Equip yourself to effectively lead in these scenarios:

1. Troubleshooting existing scenarios

2. Maintaining the balance and progress of existing scenarios.

3. Deal with teams that you inherit through being promoted, or taking over from a leader who has vacated that role.

4. Setting up new teams with the best chance of success right out of the starting blocks.

Part 9

The tougher side of leadership and how to deal with it using leadership psychodynamics.

Learn how to limit the chances of awkward, difficult, or tough conversations, and how to manage these conversations if they do occur.

Find out how to use the playbook to map out and establish the grounds for your team to be a high-performance entity.

Understand what the root causes of conflict are and how to limit the occurrence of conflict or how to manage conflict if it occurs.

Conversations a leader will have.

There will be time those awkward, difficult, or tough conversations need to take place.

Using the leadership Psychodynamics approach (the blueprint and playbook as tools) will help you and your tribe minimise these events.

There are always extenuating circumstances beyond your best efforts.

If tough discussions are required, they will always be conducted from a base of fairness because of the psychodynamics principles in play.

Leading performance.

By establishing expectations upfront and equipping your tribe, you are leading performance from the human dynamic perspective.

Using the playbook equips you to set the performance parameters up correctly from the outset, but also to manage them and troubleshoot effectively when required.

Managing conflict.

Managing conflict is being able to identify warning signs early.

Using the blueprint and playbook equips you to spot the pattern shifts in the right domains, and then implement a solution from the correct context instead of relying on a hope and a prayer approach.

Part 10

Leadership DNA

Know what it is that establishes a leadership culture, genetics, or DNA in a team or organisation.

Find out why it is a key differentiator between poor, average, and great teams and organisations.

Take a look at how it empowers you as a leader within your organisation.

The best leaders know that they must equip and surround themselves with leaders.

The best way to extract maximum human performance is to equip those around you to be able to lead their spheres of influence and control.

A leadership centric culture creates a DNA and genetic within the team, group, business, or organisation that becomes a competitive advantage.

A leadership DNA is the catalyst that produces a highly efficient and effective set of outcomes.
